Zone Trigger Help

Post by jlw52761 »

Been trying for a few months to get my zones "tuned", but I always either overshoot and miss events, or undershoot and get a ton of false positives.
I'm trying to use the stats from the triggered events to fine tune things, but I don't think I have things down right.

For instance, I have a zone that is the end of my driveway, about 20 feet from the camera. The zone itself is not large, to try and keep objects (people) about the same size throughout the zone. Also, this is a 4k camera, so the pixel count is large. I've debated setting a second monitor at a lower resolution, say 1920x1080 instead of the current 3840x2160 for the purpose of analysis and alarming, then trigger an event on the 4k monitor, but haven't gone down that route yet.

For my zone, the total pixels is 483137, or 5% of the total image. Here's the current settings:
Units: Pixels
Alarm Check Method: Blobs
Min/Max Pixel Threshold: 10/-
Filter Width/Height (pixels): 5/5
Min/Max Alarmed Area: 100/15000
Min/Max Filtered Area: 100/10000
Min/Max Blob Area: 100/-
in/Max Blobs:1/-
Overload Frame Ignore Count: 0
Extend Alarm Frame Count: 0

The stats from one of the frames is:
Pixel Diff: 32
Alarm Pix: 641 (0%)
Filter Px: 590 (0%)
Blob Px: 590 (0%)
Blobs: 1
Blob Sizes: 590 (0%)
Alarm Limits: 3394,604-3475,635
Score: 1

How do I interpret the stats to make adjustments to the zone? I can increase the blob count, but beyond that, how does one interpret the data? BTW, this event was from a bug streaking across the frame. Another event, a car driving by reflecting the headlight off of my car's headlight lens

Pixel Diff: 21
Alarm Pix: 3614 (0%)
Filter Px: 2309 (0%)
Blob Px: 1861 (0%)
Blobs: 3
Blob Sizes: 248-1207 (0%-0%)
Alarm Limits: 2134,519-3542,735
Score: 1

This is the most helpful article on the topic https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Understandi ... or_Dummies

I ended up using the Event Server.

Yeah, can't remember how many times I've gone through that article. Maybe it's just the extreme amount of pixels in the 4k feed. I will create a second monitor at D1 resolution (704*480) and go through that article again. Then link it to the 4k feed as an external trigger, so when I do get an alarm, I will get some very high res video, but otherwise stick with the lower res.

Or just use the Event Server. Your time, you can choose how to spend it. I used to struggle with boiler steam crossing the image and headlights from cars once it starting getting dark. All gone now.

I do use zmEventServer, but if I don't tune the alerts then my watch/phone drive me absolutely crazy. Too many false alerts = crying wolf. I'm actually trying to get the MQTT to work for alerting.

You should tune ZMES, not ZM.
