Network Camera advice

Post by rpuffd »

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I dont want to buy a camera that I cant get working in ZM. I have looked at the supported camera hardware on the ZM site, but there are no specifics for cameras that support POE. That is a must in my situation. I found a Panasonc camera that meets my needs, but I am not sure if it will work in ZM. I have ZM up and running on Fedora 10 so I am ready to go. Here is the camera(watch for line wrap)

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-elec ... 0000005702

Will this Camera work in ZM, and another question, it supports audio which I dont need, but I am concerned that it will require more bandwidth and will have negative results when viewed over the internet. My upload speeds for my ISP typically run in the 2 to 3 Mbs range, kind of wimpy.

On another note, can someone recommend a GOOD(reputable vendor) network based outdoor camera that supports POE and works with ZM ?

Thanks in advance !

Although I am not using POE on my Axis 207, it is offered.

See here: http://www.axis.com/products/cam_207/accessories.htm

As far as a good dealer, I used BlueCherry: http://store.bluecherry.net/

The owner, Curtis Hall, was very helpfull in helping me spec and set up my system.

Keith, thanks for the reply. Not sure why I had forgotten about bluecherry, that is where I got the capture card for the last ZM system that I set up. Looks like they only offer the 207W, which is OK, but I dont need the wireless and I will have to figure out how to get POE on the 207. I had seen many of the Axis cams on other sites based on my search from the supported cameras list at ZM, but never any mention of POE. I will keep poking around on Bluecherry's web site, thanks for the pointer.

Like I said Curtis was very helpful. He even got me 1000 ft coils of cable that he didn't stock, and he beat the competitions price.

I'd send him a note and see if he can still get the 207s.

If not I have purchased from Provantage and I see they have the 207 listed here: http://www.provantage.com/axis-communic ... XIC07F.htm

Just FYI Axis discontinued the 207 (207W, 207, 207MW). The replacements are the M1011(W) and M1031(W).

I contacted Curtis today, he recommended 3 cameras and I placed my order today. He was very helpful. I just hope it works with ZM including the PTZ. And if not, I hope we can work out an exchange. All is good so far. Thanks to everyone for the help.
