settings on server - no X

Post by Stefano »

hello everybody!

Hope this was not a FAQ..anyway:

I have 1 client (gentoo,kde), 1 server (gentoo, no X)
when I enter http://myServerIP/zoneminder/index.php and click on the name of the monitor just created, the video box says "no video" and the status is "inactive". Why?
My card has 4 connectors so I tried them all with no result.
I guess that additional infos should be provided, but please let me know which ones, I prefere not to post tons of useless parameters.

bye, Stefano.

My logs (last lines):

I seem to be in the same boat at you currently, and I wonder if you ever found a solution yet. I will post my specs/logs separately later today, but thought I would check with some other users first.

Seems you may have one of "those" cards that aren't particularly well documented.

Here's what I dug up with a quick google search. http://lists.zerezo.com/video4linux/msg13322.html

If you can get it working with v4l and displaying properly with xawtv (or something similar) it should work fine with zoneminder. Bottom line, get the card working and proven to work and then tackle zoneminder.

I'm in a same pickle. XawTV works fine wit the stream, it's just that I can't get feed nor image on ZM. Read my other thread on 1.24.x forum.

What do the logs have to say? If the card is working with v4l the logs should give some indication of what is going on (or not).

I think I'm with the same problem because the ZM doesn't show no image.
The message log says:

Jan 23 14:44:46 localhost zmwatch[4797]: INF [Restarting capture daemon for New, time since last capture 9 seconds (1232729086-1232729077)]

Jan 23 14:44:47 localhost zmdc[4748]: ERR ['zmc -d /dev/video0' exited abnormally, exit status 255]

The camera is working fine with xawtv, vlc and cheese.
The command zmu -q -d /dev/video0 -v shows:

Maybe it is useful for someone helping me.

xawtv can use v4l2, but zoneminder is only v4l, so that could be your problem. Also, usb has a nasty habit of moving with each reboot.

This way, with what I know, the v4l is recognizing the camera. Isn't it?
