zmupdate.pl hangs when updating from 1.32.3 to 1.33.12

Just upgraded from 1.32.3 to 1.34.1 on CentOS and when I run zmupdate.pl the script zips through each step but appears to hang on "Upgrading DB to 1.33.12 from 1.32.3". I've tried letting in run for more than an hour with no apparent progress after that point. Cancelling execution with ctrl-c yields "ERROR 1317 (70100) at line 27: Query execution was interrupted". /var/log/mariadbmariadb.log lists no errors. /var/log/zoneminder/zmupdate.log is empty.

I can stand to lose the currently saved events if it comes to that, but I prefer not to lose my configuration/camera setup.

Does anyone have insight?

Nevermind. It finally plowed through. Just took forever on that step.

I upgraded a Bionic 1.30.4 box today with about 60K events. i5 quad core with 16GB RAM. It took a while, too. But it was a successful upgrade!
