Serial Ports

How do you configure serial ports on live cd. I have looked all over for settings eg data bits etc stuff like that. Im trying to test x10 by plugging 2 computers together with a nul lmodem cable and i want to see what comes into the serial port of the zm machine

Anyone any clues?
