Yum for SME7 (based on centos4.1)

Post by chaapaï »

hello all!!
i 've made rpm for SME7
RPM, libs-RPM, src are on my FTP:
ftp://ftp.chaapai.homelinux.net/yum-sme ... mechaapai/
If you want to use on SME7 use yum.
For enable yum contrib for your server, do:

Code: Select all

# echo "contribchaapai=repository|BaseURL|ftp://ftp.chaapai.homelinux.net/yum-smeserver/7.0beta/smechaapai/\$basearch|EnableGroups|0|GPGCheck|0|Name|SME Server - Chaapai contribs|status|enabled">>/home/e-smith/db/yum_repositories
# /sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/yum.conf
look in /etc/yum.conf, normally it's like :
...
[contribchaapai]
name=SME Server - Chaapai contribs
baseurl=ftp://ftp.chaapai.homelinux.net/yum-sme ... /$basearch
gpgcheck=0
enablegroups=0
...
and for install ZM with X10 support

Code: Select all

#yum install zm-X10
without X10 support type only

Code: Select all

#yum install zm
I've rebuild some drivers (works on centos4.1):
"yum install bttv" will install drivers bttv-0.9.15 (bt848 and bt878 for bttv card.. (4inputs)!!!!
"yum install qc-usb" will install drivers qc-usb-0.6.3 for quickcam express...
"yum install spca5xx" will install drivers spca5xx-20050903

i've rebuild this drivers because they don't present...
but you have basic kernel drivers pwc ibmcam ov511.. (lib/modules/2.6.9-11.el/kernel/drivers/usb/...

Have a good day...

hello all!
1- unplug your cam
2- plug your cam
3- see your log in /var/log/messages (with ssh or web interface)
normaly your cam is detected and use pwc module in /dev/video0 (if you have only 1 cam),
(not tested with your cam)
4- if detected : go to http://yourserver/zoneminder/index.php or zm.php
login admin pwd admin
clic on :add new monitor
put camera name and function monitor
on source: /dev/video 0
RGB24
320 x 240 (basic caracteristics)
ok
restart zoneminder
if working , good , if not , see your log in /var/log/messages and /var/log/zm
oooops, i'm sorry but i speak english like as spanish cow...

Hi Airwolf,

From http://contribs.org

Regards,

Oliver
What is SME Server?

SME Server is an open-source Linux server distribution designed to be:

Simple to setup and use

Simplicity has been a design goal from day one. SME Server is easy to administer through your web browser, compatible with most common hardware, and can be installed and configured in as little as an hour.

Secure and stable to operate

When used as a gateway, SME Server acts to protect your network from internet security threats, and, based on Linux, is reliable and dependable in operation.

Cross-platform and extendable to meet future needs

Under active development for more than 5 years, SME Server already has everything necessary to provide the core services most people need to network Linux, Macintosh, and Windows systems. Should you require more, our large and active community has in that time very likely provided downloads and instructions to help you make it work the way you want it to. Also, check out the community forums - they're a treasure trove of information and help.

Oh, and it's completely free!

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, in one sense it is. An SME Server is a computer, not a magic wand. You will have to learn some basic things about what it does, and how, in order to make it work for you. That said, the hard parts have been done for you, and every step is clearly documented, in plain language that can be readily understood. Once you've done the preparation, you really can get it up and running in an hour or so, even the first time.

Do i need to install Centos first or is SME a stripped down Centos distro?

It looks as if its the later?

thanks

Hi Airwolf,

SME7 is a complete distro derivated from CENTOS.
Then download the SME7 iso image (http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 0beta4.iso), burn a CD and boot your PC from CD and enjoy.

But keep in mind that SME Version 7 is still a BETA.

Chaapai

Ive done a yum update and its broke something. ZM seems to be running the problem seems to be bttv

modprobe bttv gives
FATAL: Module bttv not found.

Can you assist a novice to rectify ? Does the bttv driver needs recompiling ?

Chaapai

Seems i broke due to wrong repositories and updated beyond sme to centos 4.2 ?

Anway i reinstalled using sme 7 beta 5 and i can confirm this works, however as the mirrors have depreciated 4.1 to 4 yum fails. Not sure of the correct way to fix but i just edited yum.conf changing the url's

I recommend chaapai's zoneminder on sme7. Its so fast to get a box up and rock stable unlike my experience of the livecd.

Steve.
