Sorry for the delay, I have no idea, I tried to load ZM4MS on my machine and seems it only works on Windows XP or maybe it needs 32-bit. I currently have Win 7 (64-bit) and I can't even change any settings to point to the server at all... I'll try and dig up an xp virtual machine and have a look... Maybe an additional configuration / package is needed.. not sure at this point..

Hi All,
Just an update in case anyone was waiting.. I have a 64-bit version running today (virtually) that I am going to soak test through the weekend.. if it survives and looks to be working properly I will upload it to my server and make it available as well.

Next on my task list would be to make as lean of a version as I can. Strip out all the extra Office/Email/Games files that are not needed for such a setup. (No ETA on this either being its done on free time..)

Thanks,

Hi elfking,
Just an update on my end... system is still running fine with now around 25,000 recorded events (must get around to tweeking my detection settings!) spread over 5 cameras on a capture card. The only problems i have is when i change something myself and it breaks! Still looking for the perfect settings on my setup (just can't leave well enough alone).
Very interested in your stripped down version if you get time, so a few questions...

1. will it be 32bit?
2. will there be a server version (no GUI)?

thanks for your time and efforts in getting us this far!

@shin234, I'm running ZM4MS fine on my home hetwork using the hardware described in my earlier post. It did take a bit of working out to get it going, but that was from the ZM4MS end, not with elfking's distro!
Happy to help if I can.

Darren.

Thanks for checking that ZM4MS I did install it onto a VM but for one reason or another couldn't find documentation regarding how to setup either a config file, or enter the options to specify what server to use! Hah I felt like it was my first day using windows all over again clicking with no avail..

I came across something similar at home in what you described when you mess with the zone's too much it breaks and for me I had to delete the camera and add it again. I found the cause to be that when you say drag a zone point to the corner, after its been pulled in on the picture it goes 1 pixel out of bounds and kills the zone/camera. Is this what you're experiencing ? I just had to be careful with my zones not to go to the very edge and it was fine.. I haven't had any time to dig into it yet, but almost seems like a bug in 1.25.0 ?

As for my future releases...

I would say if I have enough time I would do the following:
Stripped down 32 & 64 bit

Then maybe ill see if I can get it all compiled and running on Ubuntu Server with No GUI. 32-64 bit versions there as well time permitting. :D

I also just edited the first post and added the 64-bit (Desktop with GUI) version... Identical to the first release, just 64-bit...

Im glad to hear the distro is working alright for other people...

Thanks,
-Brian

I just fired up the 64bit version, it is working great. I am looking at setting
up a system at work. The usage for a couple of networked cameras running
1280x800 and 1280x1024 respectively is zip... I have never been able to
get the one camera to do 1280x1024, it would do 1280x720 but no more.

I have tried both liveCD and builds, but until now that 1280x1024 was
never seen.

When you do the server version, I hope you do it on 12.04 LTS so we have
a long term OS.

Looks like those two cameras are putting a load of 0.10 to 0.11 on
the system. Very good.

Glad to see its working well for you, I already have both iso's for 12.04 and for sure any future releases ill do my best to plant them on that for the exact LTS reasons. It makes the most sense for the future.

I have no ETA yet but am working on it when I can...

I have a Proliant Xeon here I am going to run it on. (Big Grin... B=])
I do not think I will ever run out of CPU with that thing. I am just
waiting for them to power it down so I can take it over, then I will
add all of the mixin's and see how it goes. Something running on
server or with a very light manager would be good. Also when it
is not needed just shut X and all it requires down.

One thing I have got to see how to do is a reverse detection on a
zone. The zone will be monitoring cullet (broken glass) on a con-
veyor. What I need to do is get it to alarm when it does not detect
motion of the cullet, which may mean that the conveyor has stop-
ped (easy to detect) or the cullet is backing up, harder to detect
and a optical system would be able to see that there is or is not
any motion, and then alarm appropriately.

I will be looking for those new iso's when you have them ready.

Try getting a cheap VPS] with a high bandwidth and setup some kinda torrent program.

1. Is not illegal because is not copyrighted
2. Save your own bandwidth (providing everyone shares the files (would for 1mbits over night)

or you could just setup your own torrent file and seed on your connection for a week and im sure someone will help seeding

Sorry for the delay, I have been unfortunately busy beyond belief.

Another member of the site has it up and running on Ubuntu 12.04LTS (server) with a nice detailed list of what needed to get done. For those looking for the stripped down version of my .iso file this is how it is done to do it on your own:

http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... =6&t=19194

At this point I have no idea when I would get around to making the iso file, I had some issues with the remaster system needing X11 installed to do the process, so that adds alot to the size..

Hi elfking,

I have just installed your Ubuntu Desktop 11.10 + zm v1.25.0 in 64bit version.
zm works actually quite well, but have you ever tried to control a PTZ camera with it.

I have tested various distro's, versions of Ubuntu in 32- and 64-bit, and none of them is able to control my camera, that by the way is an Apexis APM-J901-Z-WS.

Nothing happens at all, and the log contains: "Can't connect: No such file or directory" apparently from the zmcontrol.pl module.

Do you have any idea what can be done to rectify this problem ?
Maybe i should mention i'm in no way a perl programmer!! :(

Thank you for your efford. :D :D :D

Thanks! I am glad to hear it is working out for you. One of these days I'll get around to making an image of 12.04 LTS but it seems its fairly easy to get it up and running from the other threads I have seen so might not even be needed...

I am sorry to hear about the troubles with the PTZ, unfortunately I don't have any PTZ camera's so I couldn't test it at all. I was looking around for a decent/PTZ/ip camera...

You could try making a thread in the regular support area on this forum and I am sure there's someone around here who can help that has a camera.. I wouldn't be helpful since I don't have one... Maybe this is a good excuse for me to purchase one.

elfking,

This is an old thread but i gotta say this.

I started playing with linux and ZoneMinder after
hurricane katrina.
Was stuck in a fema trailer with not much to do.
Iv'e compiled from source, used Ross Melin's Live CD
and Ubuntu's deb's. It's a super piece of software.

This live CD you made is really nice. It's probably the easiest
way to have a GOOD working setup of ZoneMinder.
With the changes in linux and ffmpeg it's not that easy
to compile from source anymore. So you have done PPL
a big favor. Yes you did give back.
Just wanted to say thanks.

PS I'm going to watch for your posts, a server version
would be the icing on the cake

A couple years ago I built linux from scratch and zoneminder and all deps. Well the disk just crashed and I was too lazy to redo everything so I tried this dvd and it is great.

Here are a couple things:

If you want to move the location of your mysql database, ubuntu uses this horrible security crap called apparmor. I couldn't get it to work with the new data directory so I just removed the entire apparmor package. Steps:
apt-get remove apparmor
stop mysql
vi /etc/mysql/my.cnf change data dir
cd /var/lib/mysql
tar cf - . | (cd /new/data/dir; tar xf -)
start mysql

Also this dvd does not seem to have cambozola. So I installed it like this:
wget http://www.charliemouse.com:8080/code/cambozola/cambozola-latest.tar.gz
tar xf cambozola-latest.tar.gz
cp cambozola-*/dist/cambozola.jar /var/www/zm

Hope this helps someone.
