It kills the network connection too

Post by kp4djt »

Folks,
I have sent a series of log files, I am trying to run the 1.24.2 liveCD, that Russ has done. Here is where I am at, I can run up to two IP cams on the
machine. As I pointed out in a past post, I have changed shmmax and shmall based on I think every piece of info I found on the list. No joy. I believe there is another issue here, but not sure where to poke at it.

What I have noticed is when this happens it also kills the network connection.
The IP stack is still running because I can talk to different pieces on localhost
just fine, it is only eth0 which is taken out.

Here is the latest piece of log file, the error happens just after I enable monitoring on the 3rd cam. At that point you get the error where it can
not open a socket file I started this file capture just prior to enabling
the 3rd camera. As I understand it the adjustment of the two memory
values is no longer done as it is handled through memory mapping, is
there adjustments that I have to make there, I have not found any.

I think you have a couple of probably unrelated things going on here.
The choice of shared or mapped memory is made at compile time, and I opted for shared so that user maciekc's Raw Stream Viewer could be used.
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5600

These errors are caused by the web frontend, usually when opening a montage view, and are harmless unless they are repeated endlessly.

These are related to the 2 cams that are working, not the 3rd cam you are having trouble with.

These errors are related to the 3rd cam
Oct 2 08:05:07 zmhost zms[3393]: WAR [Shared data not initialised by capture daemon, some query functions may not be available or produce invalid results]
Oct 2 08:05:07 zmhost zms[3393]: WAR [Unable to store frame as shared memory invalid]
They are not necessarily a result of insufficient shared memory. It could be that the camera (monitor) is not configured properly, or it could be related to the network interface errors you include in the other thread. If zmc (the capture daemon) cannot capture from the network cam it cannot fill the shared memory buffer with the data expected by zms.

It looks like either the network interface hardware or the driver may be buggy.

Russ, thank you for the observations, yesterday I backed away from the
whole thing, and this morning when I looked at it (I had not checked the
list yet) I started thinking, this is either a HW or driver issue. I have a
machine running 1.23.3 (you can see it at www.wchast.com/zm guest guest)
and it is seeing the same cameras without a problem. These are the DCS-910
cameras, I am wondering if I do not have a issue with the MBO as the first
couple of days after the install this code ran flawlessly. I am going to stick
a NIC card in the machine and kill the on board card, that should tell me if
the NIC has issues or if it is a driver issue.

Thanks again for the info. It was so frustrating after having this rev come
on line on this machine and run so cleanly. But you know I tried to load the
1.23.3 liveCD on this machine and it would not talk through that NIC either

Now to see if I can not get a fully running box going for good.

It appears to have been the switch, it is a Netgear Dual Speed 8 port hub.
I am going to get a 8 port switch and replace it. I did not realize the thing
was a hub until I looked and saw it, I thought it was a 8 port switch...

It works just fine with the 1.23.3 machine, but the 1.24.2 does not like it.
I put another switch between the server and the hub, it works just fine.

Keeps you on your feet.
