Mandrake 9.2 and streaming

Post by rdmelin »

Hi all
I have 0.9.16-031027 working on Mandrake 9.2. This is my first look at zoneminder and it's a great package! I'm still testing and learning the interface.
I have not been able to view streaming video, only stills. I have tried with and without cambrozola enabled. I used the .jar from this site, copyed to /var/www/html/zm. Mozilla and Konqueror both show a frame with an image icon and nothing else, both from localhost and from a remote host. IE shows the name and author of the applet.

Hi Ross,

It sounds like perhaps you are having trouble with zms, the streaming daemon. If you click on the cambozola applet then it should present you with an url that is being used (or just look at the source of the page). If you take what comes after the '&' and put it into a command window as the QUERY_STRING environment variable you should be able to run zms on the command line. Can you try that and see if it works (or crashes).

Also are you having problems with just watching the live feed, or events, or both?

Cheers,

Phil,

Thanks for the reply.
Click on the combozla applet? I guess I dont understand. View the source of which page? The monitor page? I'm not finding an URL in the source of the monitor page. Sorry I'm so slow but if you will clarify I will try to give a better bug report.

I dont get streaming video, only stills in the monitor window and the event window. Maybe unrelated but if I generate a video it is all black. I get the same thing if I try to generate a video with ffmpeg from the command line, all black.

OK I think Im making some progress. IE gives me some info when I click on the streaming frame. Konqueror and Mozilla did't give me anything. IE tells me:
URL: http://192.168.2.20/cgi-bin/zms?monitor ... 50&scale=1
FPS: 0

Trying to apply the debugging instruction above I did this:
# QUERY_STRING=monitor=3&idle=250&refresh=250&scale=1
# zms
#tail /var/log/syslog

I sorted out the issues with ffmpeg and now can view generated videos.

Just adding a note that the above is with the new beta update applied. Also none of the logs in /tmp have any error messages.
Also I find that after about 30 minutes with zm running it eats all my memory and swap and the system becomes none responsive to keyboard or mouse. :(

Success !!
An update to the latest Mandrake Apache2 security update packages has solved the streaming problem! And perhaps the memory leak problem as well. I will keep the system up to test.
