Question about possible compatible camera for zoneminder

Post by RockUser »

I'm in the market to get a doorbell camera that will work with zoneminder and I stumbled across this article a while ago about facial recognition and zoneminder.
https://medium.com/zmninja/diy-doorbell ... 5d4cd261c4

Originally the article is talking about Dbell, this Canadian company that makes onvif compliant doorbell cameras. I was going to get that one from Dbell, but then when I rechecked the article I saw that there was an update saying that this other camera operated better. The EZVIZ DB1 doorbell camera. Fine by me, the camera has a higher resolution and is cheaper and the author of that article says it works better for him.

But when I checked the Amazon link for the product a whole bunch of people, including some people claiming to be from EZVIZ, were claiming that the camera does not support onvif. I want to pull the trigger on this and get that doorbell camera, but I just want to be sure that it works with Zoneminder. One of the main reasons I got into zoneminder as opposed to some google camera ecosystem was that with zoneminder the camera feeds don't leave my network or my direct control.

I was also wondering if anyone else has any sort of doorbell camera working with zoneminder that they'd recommend. Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

This is the camera that I'm referring to so there's no confusion. https://www.ezvizlife.com/product/db1/960

Did you go figure out an answer to this?

I am not a big fan of this, but sometimes it is necessary, perhaps order the item, try it real quick and if it works great, if it does not work return it. ??

Any doorbell camera with Onvif or RTSP will probably be supported. Test in VLC / ffmpeg first.
fastest way to test streams:
ffmpeg -i rtsp://<user>:<pass>@<ipaddress>:554/path ./output.mp4 (if terminal only)
ffplay rtsp://<user>:<pass>@<ipaddress>:554/path (gui)
find paths on ispydb or in zm hcl
