Is ZoneMinder Streaming API fast enough for live broadcasting?

Post by rhino2rhonda »

I have currently configured ZoneMinder to record RTSP streams from several cameras to a hard disc. I additionally need remote on-demand access to my camera streams as well as saved streams. I was checking out the Streaming API but it seems to output MJPEG/MP4 streams which is heavier compared to the original H.264 compression of the stream. Do I need to worry about these output streams not being sufficiently compressed for transmission to a live streaming server over a 4G network?

In my experience, there is about a 5-10 second delay from a remote 4G hotspot and VPN to a LAN.

I would say the answer is "no".

No for "is it fast enough" or "do I need to worry"?

To be fair, my experience is with an RPI, so you might have better luck with an x86 based CPU / server hardware.
