Ubuntu Install for 1.34.x

Post by bbunge »

Install procedures Trusty, Xenial, Bionic and Eoan done. (Bionic and Eoan can use the same install script!). Disco support ends January 2020 so it is not included. Bionic LEMP (NGINX) also included

I am working on the ppa, have to build mp4v2 for disco and eoan. Alternatively people can use https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com for ubuntu packages too.

In general terms, the install should be the same for 1.34 as for 1.32.

Can anyone verify that an in place upgrade worked with no issues from 1.32?

Thank you

If someone is running a master snapshot it seems to feel that 1.33.16~202001171236 is a higher number than 1.34.0, so you may have to actually grab the .deb from the ppa and install it manually. Or remove zoneminder, remove the old ppa then re-install.

Just did an upgrade on a Bionic server running ZM 1.33.16 from the zoneminder-master PPA. Before I changed the PPA I ran an apt update/apt upgrade as the server had been powered down for a week. Much to my surprise Zoneminder upgraded to the 1.34. version in the zoneminder-master PPA. So, I removed the zoneminder-master (add-apt-repository --remove ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-master) and added zoneminder-1.34 (add-apt-repository ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-1.34) then apt-upgrade. The upgrade ran the install for Zoneminder 1.34.0 and all is well!

On Ubuntu Server 18.04 and Zoneminder 1.32.3.

Did:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-1.34
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get full-upgrade
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-1.32

and all worked fine!

Thanks!

While I am not too familiar with NGINX I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly Zoneminder 1.34.0 works with a LEMP setup! I ran the install on my test server with just two cameras.

Running ZoneMinder for the first time ever, trying to get totally rid of Windows finally (long history with commercial DVRs & VMSs). 1.34 seems to work great on Ubuntu 19.10.

One camera seems to disconnect and reconnect intermittently. The cam is branded as "FINE". Does anyone have any experience with those?

A word of caution for upgraders. As of 22JAN20 the PPA/zoneminder-master, the development area, has versions of Zoneminder 1.34. If you were using the 1.33.x development version of Zoneminder and you apt update - apt upgrade without changing to PPA/zoneminder-1.34 you will get the next development version. Just be aware that it is possible some things may not work!

For those of you using MySQL 8 on Ubuntu 19.10, there are some additional MySQL configurations that have to be done.

See: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu_Serv ... yond.3F.29

Be advised that there is at least one procedure posted on a couple of sites that has steps to do this that are not needed...

Thanks!
SO I built a 16.04 machine with ZM 1.32.3 & successfully upgraded to 1.34 & then upgraded to 18.04.

Some PHP hiccup that was easily resolvable with the help of this forum & the search bar.

Now on to my installs in a couple of weeks time when I have a chance.

Thanks again to all. You have made my job much easier.

Besides a couple of typos you do not need gdebi, x264, x265 or libmp4v2
