H264 Passthrough and ram usage

Post by clipo »

Debian 10 with ZM 1.33.15
Hikvision IPC-B140 IP camera

I have the above system setup as H264 Passthrough with and basic recording of the video.

At 1920 x 1080 @ 10fps 32bit colour the system is using 50% of the shm drive, 2gb.
At higher resolutions the ram usage is exponentially more...

I have used ffmpeg to direct stream the video to the hard drive as I'm guessing zoneminder dose and the ram usage is very very little.

Is this normal?

Yes it's how ZM was designed back when video was 320x200. Every time you double the resolution you are in fact multiplying by 4 the ram and cpu requirements. In 1.35 I will drastically reduce the shm requirements. For now you need a lot of ram. Good thing it is relatively cheap.

Thanks,

I guessed that would be the answer.

Hope you can get 1.35 in development soon as I'm starting to build a system with multiple mega pixel cameras.

Is there any way to reduce the ram usage other than reducing the video size, 1920 x 1080 is the minimum size we can use.
