Zoneminder 1.30.2 not working with Amcrest IP2M-842E/ RTP/RTSP missing from Source/Remote Method dropdown

Hello,

I followed the instructions at:

to install ZoneMinder 1.30.2 on Kubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit.
Note that I had to manually fix "Options => Path" as noted here:

(this fixed an issue with a "broken image" I was seeing when trying to view the Amcrest camera via ZoneMinder in "monitor" mode)

I then followed the directions at:

to configure ZoneMinder (not using zmNinja at this time).

I only get a blue screen now, with the incrementing timestamp.

One thing I noticed is that the Amcrest Youtube video says you should set "Source => Remote Method" in the ZoneMinder web interface for the Amcrest camera to "RTP/RTSP". In my installation, that is not an option. I see only:

TCP
UDP
UDP Multicast
HTTP Tunnel.

1) Why is RTP/RTSP missing from "Source => Remote Method"
2) Anything else I should try?

BTW, the camera is working fine using Amcrest ViewPro (Android) on my phone.

How do I install an older version? And which one would be recommended? 1.29?
I used this ppa:
add-apt-repository ppa:iconnor/zoneminder
as recommended:
http://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/lat ... untu-16-04

if I do
sudo apt-cache search zoneminder
I do not see an option to install an older version.

I see from
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=24846
building from source is discouraged.

Is there a downloadedable .deb for earlier versions somewhere?

Also, I have 2 Kubuntu 16.04 PCs available, so I can try an earlier version on the second one without touching the first.

Using VLC 2.2.2, I verified my RTP/RTSP ***is correct***.
One thing I noticed was VLC asked me for username/password.
Zoneminder is ***not*** asking me for this password.
Where should I enter this -- is that the issue?
I can provide the complete configuration of the camera "monitor" in Zoneminder if that would be useful.

Yes, if your camera requires authentication then you have to include that in the rtsp url when you enter it into zoneminder.
Different cameras have different requirements on exactly how to do that. Please see the wiki link I gave you earlier to learn how to do that for your camera.

If you still have trouble please show us what you've set every field to on the Source tab, including the complete rtsp url. Naturally, replace the password with dummy text. It would also be helpful to see the contents of your zoneminder log.

Ah, ok, the user name and password were wrong in the rtsp url.
When I fixed that, I verified vlc works without user/password prompting.
However, Zoneminder still gives a blue screen with the corrected url.

When I try to export the log from the Zoneminder web GUI, I get:

I already followed the instructions at:

The only issue being incorrect username/password.

In the section that reads:
H.264
On the Camera:
Setup->Camera->Video->Main Stream
Encode Mode: H.264

I'm not sure how to change such a setting on the camera, although I'd think this is not the issue, as VLC works fine.
The above permissions issue however looks like a good bet
(but I don't want to change it without confirmation).

I didn't notice the following until I reread your earlier post. The following doesn't look right:

Capture Width (pixels): 320
Capture Height (pixels): 240

Referring back to the wiki instructions, this should be 1920 x 1080. Failure to get this right will produce the symptoms you describe.
When in doubt, open the stream in the vlc, then click Tools -> Codec Information. Vlc will tell you what the resolution of the stream is. I tell people to do this because not all 1080p cameras are exactly 1080p. For example, I own several cameras with a "1080p" resolution of 1920x1088.

The following is less likely, but for the sake of experimentation, make sure your password only has standard, non-extended alpha numerics. We recently fixed this, but I don't remember if it made it into 1.30.2 or not.

Also, set your color depth to 32bit. This will give a performance boost.

This is a different problem. It will prevent you from recording but should not prevent a live stream.

To troubleshoot that, we need to see:

• The value of DIR_IMAGES under Options -> Images

• Code: Select all

Actually, when I did this, I got a "missing image" icon.
I then changed back to

and it actually started working!
So I don't know why, but live streaming now works.

You should watch the video again. At 2:33 they set the resolution. I know you said you got it working, but 320x240 resolution is pretty crappy.
