Ubuntu Packages missing from Zoneminder Stable PPA

Post by bbunge »

As of 1600 UTC 22OCT15 the Zoneminder Stable PPA site has no packages. If you add the PPA and run apt-get update you will get an error from the PPA and will not be able to install this version of Zoneminder!

Working on finding out what happened and will post updates...

There are packages in the Zoneminder-master PPA. However, these are BETA packages and can be buggy. We do not recommend using zoneminder-master packages for anything other than testing systems!

Thanks guys.

I thought it was me as I was rebuilding box #3 this morning.

Box #1 and #2 are working well now rebuilt from scratch running 1.28.X.

Looks like the version that was loaded to the stable PPA is the old 1.28.1. Unfortunately, I've redone all the install procedures for newer versions!

The good news is that it can be installed with a few considerations:

1. The zm database will be created so you do not have to manually add/update the database
2. "a2enconf zoneminder" will not work. Create a symbolic link instead: ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/zoneminder.conf
3. PHP timezone does not need to be created

You will not get the API with this version.

Stay tuned! More changes, I'm sure!!!

@bbunge

Which new Zoneminder 1.28.1 Ubuntu 64 bit wiki do you suggest I use for box #3 which currently only has a base Ubuntu 64bit / LAMP configuration on it?

There is no rush on this and I can wait.

This is what is posted now:

Someone had added an untested (by me) video codec PPA which I removed.

I was hoping to update my control. I'm getting no movement with the PTZ. How can I get a new control? I don't know if it would help, but the download may have gotten bunged while downloading it.
Thanks

@bbunge

It appears that the updated PPA Zoneminder is not installing correctly and not working.

http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... e_easy_way

Installed it as earlier on one machine and it was fine. This time (2 days ago) it is not working.

I did try twice from scratch on an Intel based server initially installing Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit base, SSH and LAMP stuff then Zoneminder per Wiki and both times Zoneminder version 1.28.x current release did not work.

1st machine is working fine.

Second machine using Wiki above with updated Zoneminder PPA is not working.

Logs show:

WAR Can't find process with command of 'zma -m 1'

ERR getStreamCmdResponse stream error: socket_sendto( /var/run/zm/zms-491206s.sock ) failed: No such file or directory - checkStreamForErrors() ?view=watch

ERR socket_sendto( /var/run/zm/zms-491206s.sock ) failed: No such file or directory

Best for you to give it a try to see.

I am not at a place where I can run a test on the install. I did look at the WIKI and it is as I changed it the other day. It is possible your browser has cached an older version of the page. Clear your browser cache and check the WIKI again. You could drop back to the default ZM of 1.26.5, get that working and upgrade to 1.28.1.

Thank you BB.

Yup it could have but it didn't. I didn't try twice. I tried 5 times SSHing remotely using Firefox (always clear cache settings) from Wintel and Linux Desktops.

Yeah I haven't run ZM 1.26.x now for a few months as I was already using version 1.28.x and it was working fine up until the 1.28.1 update.

I have attached a PDF link of the Wiki.

http://1drv.ms/1LvJorm

I am thinking the wiki verbiage is fine as it really hasn't changed.

No rush on checking as I am running fine on one box and not in a rush to rebuild my other boxes (they are just for testing mostly).

I also had problems with the install. I think typing a2enmod cgi and Apache2 restart after that fixed some of those.
Later I installed Zoneminder to Ubuntu 15.10 with Wiki instructions without errors or problems.

(Still trying to decide what to do, I'm replacing Ubuntu 12.04 and ZM 1.25 with another machine. I'd prefer to use LTS Ubuntu)
