Problems with Events not showing video

Post by bucsfan069 »

I have a Zoneminder 1.27 install set up using Ubuntu 12.04. I have been having lots of troubles with intermittent issues. I will try to keep this report short and focused on just one issue. The fact that some events show a link to the video but do not have a video to display, or still frames for that matter. When looking at the events page I see an event with all of the information populated and hyperlinks all working properly, BUT instead of a thumbnail of the event there is a hyperlink fraction...ie 27/5. So when I click on that hyperlink it acts as if it is loading a video then just loads a video screen with no images...This is becoming a hindrance. it seems to happen in batches...ie 2 hours worth of these events, then the video events return just fine, there could be 8 hours of perfectly fine video events, then 6 events will have these "fractions". Could it be the CPU Load? that seems to hover around 5-10 on the main screen. Is it a memory problem?

I have uploaded a few screenshots please take a look and see if you can help assist me in any way.

I am not sure where to look for the answer. Is this a DB problem? is there an issue with too many camera's causing the system to not be able to record the video to the disk? I do not see much for errors in the log. Can anyone help me out with a direction to look in?

event log entries...Is the Buffer overrun the source of the missing video??

Not quite sure what you mean by fractions (and I am not sure if I understood everything you wrote), but if you are noticing your videos don't render at times, and do at times, and you see your 'monitor sources' turning red or orange during that time, it could indeed point to memory issues.

A load of 5-10 "on average" seems high (depends on your CPUs/cores). Can you report the following:

a) how much memory do you have?
b) How many cameras have you configured and at what resolution?
c) Do a "df -h" from a terminal and please post results

I no longer work on zmNinja, zmeventnotification, pyzm or mlapi. I may respond on occasion based on my available time/interest.

Here are the answers to your questions, see below for a possible lead on what is wrong...

If you look at the screen shot you will see a fraction where the thumbnail should be. That is what i mean...instead of a thumbnail picture you will see "27/5" in hypertext.

my monitor sources don't seem to ever turn red or orange. I have 32 camera feeds with 2 network cameras.

Here is a readout of the top command"
top - 12:43:07 up 9:41, 1 user, load average: 3.72, 4.02, 4.10
Tasks: 225 total, 2 running, 223 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 7.9%us, 3.5%sy, 0.0%ni, 54.9%id, 33.6%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 16552068k total, 4835712k used, 11716356k free, 461320k buffers
Swap: 16770044k total, 0k used, 16770044k free, 3235640k cached
here is a df -h:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 1.8T 1.1T 612G 65% /
udev 7.9G 4.0K 7.9G 1% /dev
tmpfs 1.6G 916K 1.6G 1% /run
none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
none 7.9G 475M 7.5G 6% /run/shm
Thanks for any help you can provide....Although I think I found the issue...I am just not sure how to proceed to fix it.
It seems that my iNodes are running out. So I have only 65% disk usage but 100% iNode usage...
Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 120922112 111677346 9244766 93% /
udev 169614 590 169024 1% /dev
tmpfs 173263 533 172730 1% /run
none 173263 5 173258 1% /run/lock
none 173263 38 173225 1% /run/shm
This only shows 93% because I just cleared out about 3 months worth of jpegs...Although it will just build up again. I have read a little about formatting to fix iNode problems but I can't seem to find a reason that that will change anything, as this has been happening on multiple implementations of this system, on different hardware. Is there a specific command I need to run to keep iNodes from being used up so quickly?

I had similar issue after upgrading to 1.28 version.
Instead of thumbnails on the event list I had hyperlinks visible, and when I clicked on that hyperlink, the full sized screen appeared with captured image.

Workaround, that worked for me was to disable the:
WEB_H_SCALE_THUMBS, WEB_M_SCALE_THUMBS and WEB_L_SCALE_THUMBS
in the tabs: High B/W, Medium B/W and Low B/W.

I guess this is some kind of problem with jpeg library or so, but I did not investigate it deeper, since it started to work.
