So I have ZM running nicely with a local monitor attached and turned on.
I don't really won't to leave a monitor turned on all day / night - so I though no problem I'll just turn it off. System continued to work fine.
Then I thought what happens if I try and boot from cold with no monitor - problem, the ZM box hangs part way thru' boot.
Gets as far as starting zoneminder than hangs - I know this because if I connect a monitor after boot up and wait for it to hang the I see a load of terminal messages on the screen, the last one saying starting ZM.
I figure it may have some to do with the ZM box not being to configure the video card for the appropriate resolution as it can't read the EDID ?
I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 - maybe I need to edit xorg.conf or something similar ?

Start up problem when running 'headless' and no monitor
Re: Start up problem when running 'headless' and no monitor
Don't know what this is, but I do know what it isn't - zm.
Zoneminder has no interest in any monitor in that sense and doesn't check it. It's only output goes via apache. I run numerous zoneminder servers, none with monitors.
Might be some oddness in the bios perhaps - if the hdd light doesn't flicker, perhaps it's not even getting to OS stage?
