Using VLC for Windows as a streaming source

Post by moasat »

Is there a way to get ZM to read an HTTP/MJPEG stream produced by VLC?

I have a Logitech Quickcam 4000 attached to a Windows XP/Gentoo dual boot system. Usually it is booted into Windows. I'd like to run VLC in the background and provide a stream from the locally attached webcam. I can get VLC to produce an HTTP stream with mjpeg as the codec, and I can see that stream with VLC on a separate computer. I can get ffplay to play it on a separate computer but it requires a '-f mjpeg' parameter on the command line first. Otherwise ffplay complains with 'Invalid data found when processing input'. ZM gives me a green link to the source but I get no picture.

I've tried using both 'Remote' and 'ffmpeg' as the Source Type. I've tried HTTP/Simple which works with my Trendnet camera which also produces an HTTP/MJPEG stream. But nothing seems to work for the VLC stream.

Can anyone offer any help? I've been battling this for a while now.

Forgot to mention, I'm using 1.24.2 since that seems to be the latest available in the Ubuntu repos.
