Trying to install pwc update for logitech cam

Post by mc »

Got Zoneminder installed, just want one of my webcams (logitech zoom) to work

I have been to http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc and downloaded, unpacked and removed any existing pwc.ko files from the modules.

Next I try the #make command and i am getting:

# make
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/build SUBDIRS=/root/Desktop/pwc-10.0.7a modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [default] Error 2

I see that the instructions say the compile needs the source of my actual kernal to be installed. I see no build folder in /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/ so I guessed that was the problem. I then rebooted, starting using an older kernal that had the build and source folders in lib/modules/ , however when running the make command I still had errors, not exactly the same as the above (it seemed to get further), but still no good.

Can anyone help me in this procedure as I must be doing something wrong somewhere?

Just to add, here is my sbin/lsmod report:

I feel your pain...I had similar problems trying to get a working pwc module...I have given up (for now) as I received a sony superhad day/night camera I have been tinkering with.

Thanks Blazer.....

I take it that camera just plugs into a TV card and works without any further problems in Zoneminder?

if you get the right card or a card the works with v4l yes you just plug it in. The only difficulty you might have is setting the card number in modprobe. I hvnt got a webcam working yet but i dont really see the need to unless zm is just being used in an office. Either go for a tested ip camera or a capture card mate.

Thanks again.

While I wait for some cash to get another camera, I am trying to see why the logitech cam doesn't work. I have now managed to get Gnomemeeting to configure the camera completely, Audio tests ok, the camera is recognised ok and tests ok, but when Gnomeeting is started the screen remains grey. Turning the camera on & off even work, it's just the grey screen is the problem. I say "just" as I realise there's still perhaps a long way to go yet.

This makes me wonder why no-one has yet fully sorted out a kernal which can be used by up2date that has the packages/modules for webcams built into them...If only I knew more

I finally got my Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 to work. The kernels DO have a pwc module in them, but it's bugged and has to be replaced by a third party one. If you are still having trouble I will post exactly what I did to get mine working on CentOs 4.1.

Sounds great - perhaps would work with mine too. Any info would be very much welcome :D
