Before asking about a hardware support please check the Hardware Compatibility List first.

You should also check our Wiki HCL and the HCL for your Distro.
It's always a good idea to google on the hardware your considering just to make sure it has no problems. ie. in the google search string you could do

axis 2100 site:zoneminder.com

to search our domain only for other users experiences.

And when your card does not work, realize that there are hundreds of different cards. And each one is often branded with many different names. A name, link, and picture can really help a lot. If I see a post with "I have China Special PX-1234 and it doesn't work" and that is all, I have no answer to give.

Before I try to get a camera to work on Zoneminder, I try to look at it using the Swiss Army Knife of video tools, the VLC Player. Just download the player and put the following url into the File/Open Network dialog box...

The link in the initial "read this" post for checking hardware compatibility is broken.

First was easy to fix... not sure where the content for the second went...
