Power for analogue cameras

Post by cwoods »

Hi,

I am working on setting up a beginners system to understand better what zoneminder can offer as a home CCTV solution. I resurrected an old AMD Athlon 1500+ PC (2GB RAM) as a test machine. My plan is to purchase a simple PCI capture card and a camera.

I understand how the data feed will route from the camera outside to the capture card on the PC and to the zoneminder software. However I am unclear on how the cameras will be powered. I assume the capture card does not provide the power also?

Sorry if this is a very simple question.

Thanks

Colin Woods.

normally they are powered using the extra two power cables on the siamese cable. A power adapter is plugged into one end (by the DVR machine) and it comes out on the camera end where you plug in the camera.

You can also use Balens over CAT6 (can work on CAT5, but 6 is better signal quality). Search on amazon for "cctv balen"
