Again
it depends on your machine. On the current generation of machines, yeah, a 3 isn't too bad. My sister's Athlon 2500 2-tuner MythTV box rarely breaks 4 while recording 2 programs, transcoding in the background, and playing one back, so...

Hack
I have an idea that the easiest way to do this might be to add another mode to monitors called "Train", where you could point it at a stream/sequence/event as you suggest. I'm not sure whether you'd do this by hacking zmc, or at a higher level, but I agree with you that it'd be spiffy as a...

The other side of this issue...
Is being able to easily *export* a frame from an aimed camera to let you pull it into your paint program for turning into a mask.
I presume you can just switch to non-stream mode, and Save Image As?

In particular
This would extend support to the Intellinet net cams, specifically the older 550550, which doesn't seem to be supportable any other way at the moment. I believe the 550710 does permit the retrieval of a JPEG, which the -550 doesn't.

Following up to my own posting...
This was happening with 1.21.0, and remains the case with 1.21.1.
Short recap of the core problem: wget can pull a jpeg off the camera, but zmc times out on the select call, after successfully opening a TCP stream to it.

Well, what are you protecting?
Anyone who's read (or, better, reads regularly) the RISKS Digest, http://www.risks.org, realizes that the issue is one of evaluating the potential risks, and what their costs might be. To be blunt, if you're just playing around, it doesn't really much matter *what* you do about physical security on ...

Load average
it's the (presumably 1-minute) average of how many Unix processes are in the run queue. What's too high a number depends entirely on your machine: current AthlonXP and P-IV class machines can tolerate LA's as high as 10 and still provide reasonable interactive response; on the old 386 and 486 machin...

SOLVED: zmc times out on select with Pana BL-C10
New install, and I've been through (and solved) the "not enough shared memory" problem, the "your camera has a password" problem, the "wget can't retrieve a jpeg" problem... and I *still* can't get a picture. All my other logfiles seem quiescent, now, except the syslog,...
