I guess, when you're digitising an an analogue broadcast signal the vertical resolution is dictated by the scan lines, but the horizontal resolution is a matter of sample rate. The bttv digitising chip is just trying to come up with an image which has approximately square pixels. As analog broadcast...

I do some work for a company that also uses video capture cards, and they have never come across a camera/card combination that doesn't interlace above 320 pixels high, including so called 'professional' equipment, so I just don't think they exist I'm afraid. I guess, whilst it would be possible, t...

I think the effect is from the driver capturing frames in even field of one frame and odd field of the next frame rather than odd and then even of the one frame as it should be. I suspect the catch is whether the camera is supplying an interlaced image that it has constructed by: Capture a full-fra...

If it's a single-chip capture card then yes, that will happen, as those settings apply to the chip rather than the channel.

Try looking in /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog (or wherever your distribution puts its logs). That's where you're most likey to find the evidence.

The red indicates that the capture daemons have vanished, so nothing's capturing images from the cameras. Time to stop and re-start zm, I expect. Then look through your logs to find out what went wrong.

You might also want to use a virtual host in Apache, so that http requests to your dyndns.domain aren't the same as http requests to whatever ip address you have at present. That way you can divert quite a lot of un-wanted stuff into a no-permission zone, as many of the automated malicious web attac...

Yeah, the latest main-line ebuild is giving me conflict problems with my custom one too. Ebuild/emerge is a handy tool until things start conflicting... :/

Your best bet would probably be to try getting the camera working with xawtv first. It's much easier to try different settings and so on with xawtv, and options like -hwscan make figuring out what's where a whole heap easier...

I think it'll depends a bit which flavour of device system's being used. On my Gentoo system /dev/video0 is a link to /dev/v4l/video0.

The apache user may need a shell defined? The default Gentoo install sets apache's shell to /bin/false.

Gentoo custom portage for 1.22...

I have put a gzipped tar file of my portage stuff into zm-1.22.0-portage.tgz . It's my custom ebuild, an alternative to the one in the main portage tree, and I don't use ffmpeg , so it may need tweaks if it's to work with ffmpeg. Also, note that it is customised, and it isn't in an install and run o...

It seems to be the zone shape editing. I think the reason that rule triggers is the length of the referrer information. Here's one line from the apace log that corresponds to one of those alerts: workstation.domain.com - - [24/Jan/2006:14:42:11 +0000] "GET /zm/images/Back-Zones.jpg?1138113729 H...
