Just make sure the user that ZM runs as is in group 'video' or whatever group has access to the /dev/video* devices on your distro...

the above seems weird to me... this card is supposed to have all 16 channels in video0... but there is 4 different video thingies being registered... can someone englighten me a bit? i really have very little idea whats going on, but id really like to learn! You have a capture card that has 4 chips...

When you say your monitors are inactive do you mean that they are not even in 'monitor' state, ie the function is set to 'none'?
