Did you read through the link for your version on how to make Ubuntu work with ZM? Very rarely is it as easy as installing the package.

You should find some good tips in the links on that page. Also only install one card until you get it working then add the second one.

What version of ZM are you using? If 1.24.X try using the BGR24 color palette. Very common error

Try experimenting with "Min/Max Alarmed Area". If your current value is 5 (min) decrease it to 3 (or less). This value represents the percentage of the entire frame that must change to alarm if your units is set to percentage.

There is a chance to pull this off if the camera supports motion detection on it's own. In that case you would use Nodect as your function and would record only what the camera determined to be motion. If the camera ignored the pan/tilt you'd be in business. I can't give you an example of such a cam...

Try modifying your hosts file with domain name and resolution (ip address).

Your card number is probably wrong. At this link is a good list of card numbers and if you can locate yours - http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/BTTV/ .
