I'm not really sure that this is to do with shared memory. My guess is it has something to do with PAL/NTSC or RGB/YUY422/etc. But, after you edited the /etc/sysctl.conf file, did you reboot? Or execute the command to reset the system to the values int the sysctl.conf file? Still a weird problem... ...

Would the work done with xlib_shm be of any help? This also grab images directly from Zoneminder (as far as I understand it).
