You did not say what Ubuntu install instructions you used. There is one final step that, if missed, will stop ZM from showing you the camera video...
Under Options/Paths set PATH_ZMS to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms
Of course, it could be the camera configuration...

Re: Source type: file, permission denied
I think you are not hearing what we are saying.. The source type File works with image files that are sent from a camera to a place the server can read them. Most cameras have this ability in fact, this is how they work! They do not make a video file but a series of still images. Think film. I suspe...

Re: Dist upgrade to 14.04 first wants to uninstall ZM
Ubuntu upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 will install the ZM package that comes with 14.04 which is ZM 1.26.5. If you have a newer version of ZM installed you could end up with a mess. Your call but it may be best to do a fresh install of 14.04 vs. an upgrade. Worse case you will loose what you have in ZM...

Re: Foscam FI9803P
Camera settings can be trying. Google is your friend when researching how to do setup. Foscam is not much help... I run a FI9821W V2 as a test camera. It is a 720P h.264 camera and its main stream settings are as follows: Stream Type HD Mode Resolution 720P Bit Rate 200K Frame Rate 2 Key Frame Inter...

Re: Foscam FI9803P
"Spot on" means it has to be exactly right! If you do not enter the camera resolution exactly, you will not get a picture in Zoneminder.

Ubuntu Installs or Upgrade add PHP5-GD
For those of you who have installed or upgraded ZM 1.29.0 on any version of Ubuntu, please make sure you install PHP5-GD:
Install PHP5-GD
apt-get install php5-gd
This was omitted from my instructions on the WIKI.

Re: Source type: file, permission denied
While I have not used the Source Type of "File" there are a couple of things you should know. 1. Files you put in /var/lib/zoneminder/images will be deleted by Zoneminder. If there is no database entry files will be purged. 2. Using the "Files" source type likely means you are up...

Re: Missing README from CentOS zmrepo rpm...
Honestly, I do not know. I've been working with the RH distros for about a week (just for fun). The package maintainer should chime in to help. I am currently loading a Ubuntu 15.10 server with Mariadb 10.1.11 and ZM 1.29.0... just to see how it works...

Open Zoneminder in a web browser (http://server-ip/zm). Click on Options - Paths Change PATH_ZMS to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms See instructions @ https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu_Server_14.04_64-bit_with_Zoneminder_1.29.0_the_easy_way You also need to have the camera resolution spot on in the ZM settings...

Re: Missing README from CentOS zmrepo rpm...
I have run that setup several times and the Readme files were there every time. I did, however, use WinSCP to find the file.

Re: Lost all the files in /usr/share/zoneminder after upgrade to 1.29
Actually the files were never there in the first place. What was there was a symbolic link that directed you to the actual location of the files. That symbolic link has moved, your files have not. I would guess you are having issues with the upgrade. There are upgrade instructions in the WIKI: https...
