Check that the path your are using is valid (i.e. in Chrome or other browser). Some system logs of Zoneminder will be useful too to help you debug your problem.
Also check that the PATH_ZMS (Options::Paths) is properly set to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms

Also, set Target colorspace to 32 bits, many ZM gurus confirm that this decreases CPU usage (I could confirm it too, but I´m not a guru... )

I believe the videos are not created unless ZM is programmed to do it (using a filter). The events you see are the sequences of images recorded if I'm not wrong.
