At any rate, as I was hunting around I came across libv4l, which converts data from all cameras supported by Linux into a couple of standard formats. Given that this would allow both my webcams to work, I'm wondering whether there are any plans to use this library in ZoneMinder? Try this suggestion...

You aren't giving us much info to go on. But as I said many webcams won't work without libv4l. And the error you are seeing is just what to expect. You didn't say what distro, kernel, etc. If you can install libv4l, try the solution posted in this thread. http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.p...

Is there anything that isn't supported This is a pretty broad question :) All zoneminder features are working as far as I can test with the hardware I have availible. The archlinux kernel is the latest (2.6.29) so harware support should be as good as any, though the installer doesn't support instal...

If I do a full install to hard disk, will I get terminal access and Sudo? Certainly. But you can also use these from the liveCD. There is a terminal icon on the bottom panel. Sudo is enabled for the default user without requiring a password. The Arch logo in the bottom left corner is also a menu wi...

You can use the "system log" utility or the command "dmesg" in a terminal to see if a webcam is recognized when you plug it in. Some webcam drivers don't support more than one camera. If your webcam is recognized as /dev/video0 then look for the bttv card as /dev/video1. Try some...

Would you be willing to test a ZMLarch liveCD? Here is a link to the latest svn version which has a patched zmc that uses libv4l. No need to install to test it. I think many webcams will not work without including libv4l. http://www.isentrix.com/pub/zoneminder/archlinux/ZMLarch/ZMLarch_svn_2905.iso ...

With the SVN version, since 2 days I'm getting a failure when trying to start it
Me too, until I did "zmupdate.pl -f"
Sudo or su and full path as needed of course.
Give it a try. I think you will waste your time with 1.24.1 as quite a few bugs have been fixed in svn.

First regarding zmfilter.pl. The variable ZM_EMAIL_SUBJECT (constant actually) comes from the database Config table, and can be set in the email tab of the Option window in the web interface. zmfilter.pl is run by the web user (apache, http, or other depending on your distro) so it does not have per...

If you'd like to PM me with access info I can take a quick look and see if I can spot the problem.

edit: I think I found the problem, a permissions problem in the svn pkgbuild.
"sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/zm/bin/zmfilter.pl" should help alot.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you decide to try ZMLarch, the just uploaded svn version resolves a lot of problems with zoneminder 1.24.1. There are also a couple of nice additions, like the qt4 based zmviewer is preinstalled. And built against libv4l zoneminder handles many webcams that wouldn't work before. Hopefully the ble...

That would depend on the distro or specific installation if from source. For ZMLarch for example the path would be

Code: Select all

Here is a screencast video, clearly showing both events and the force alarm link in watch view, made from ZMLarch.

So you will need to backtrack and examine what changes you have made to your system to find the problem.
