The OS will load from the CD (along with partition and hard drive formating). No additional software is needed to get a basic functioning machine.

Answered your other post:
If this is one of R.D. Melin's then just boot the CD, click on the install icon on the taskbar and configure your monitors; very painless and mostly preconfigured. The only setting I ever change is the shared memory settings.

Try changing the values under the Buffers Tab: Pre/Post Event Image Buffer These options determine how many frames from before and after an event should be preserved with it. This allows you to view what happened immediately prior and subsequent to the event. A value of 10 for both of these will get...

Try switching to "Modect" or check your section length setting. From the wiki under documentation: "Monitor Tab Name The name for your monitor. This should be made up of alphanumeric characters (a-z,A-Z,0-9) and hyphen (-) and underscore(_) only. Whitespace is not allowed. Source Type...

Linuxtracker.org also has most of the latest of Ross Melin's creations. These live CD's are fully functional and easy to install to a HD. I've personally installed his 1.23.3 live CD (based on Mandriva 2007) to many different systems with different chipsets and video cards including laptops with no ...

Welcome to the Zoneminder site. In short: yes; this application can do everything your asking plus very much more. As for the cameras that's going to be your call. I recommend heading over to the Bluecherry.net website to see what's available. They offer the full spectrum from analog for use with ca...

Which livecd? If this is one of Ross' then try installing it to a hard drive by selecting the install icon and following the on screen, step by step instructions. You'll now have no problem configuring the remaining channels; just follow his example on channel 0 if that one's working for you.

This is a very old thread but the latest version of a ZM live CD coupled with Mandriva is 1.23.3 and is available at Linuxtracker.org under the Zoneminder category. I believe Ross used Mandriva 2007. Anyway there are 9 active seeds with 337 downloads completed. His current masterpiece is based on Ar...

Sorry for the short answer! Warm-up frames is set up in the monitor set up under the tab for buffers. This setting will delay the monitor from working until the designating number of frames has been processed (that's the reference to patience with a low frame rate). Video.cgi (without the question m...

I'm working with 1.23.3 but the documentation still contains this section: Warm-up Frames This specifies how many frames the analysis daemon should process but not examine when it starts. This allows it to generate an accurate reference image from a series of images before looking too carefully for ...

I share your frustration! Had 900a's and never got the performance others were posting. They were never better than ok. One suggestion in dealing with slow frame rate feeds - change your warm-up frames value ( a value of 50 @ .7 fps = lot's of patience, @ 3 fps a little less).

What port are you pointing ZM to (I don't expect an answer, just covering the basics)? I trashed my DCS-900a's awhile ago but if I'm remembering correctly you had to open a second port on the camera server (I think I used 8080 or 8081) and pointed ZM to that port ( Remote Host/Port/Path : Use these ...
