Re: Help: Which brand is this ip camera?

The pixellation/smearing with FFMPEG and pre-compressed stream sources is a common thread on here (Search for smearing, tearing, pixellation ...) and is usually fixable by setting Zoneminder correctly, so don't give up just yet. The fact the stream looks good in VLC means it probably *is* good, but ...

Re: Help: Which brand is this ip camera?

Management UI is horrible, it can be used only by IE and to see all needed content, buttons etc. on UI you must set IE Document mode to "5" to get available options visible! :D It would be great if the management UI could be replaced by other one which could be used by modern browsers, but I'm afra...

Re: Help: Which brand is this ip camera?

Do they even work ;) -- you seem to have some other connectors, are they for audio/composite video/DC power etc. ? Also they say "wifi function" -- if they are looking for you friend's WIFI network, that may be a stumbling block. They may not get IP addresses from your dhcp server, if they are confi...

Re: Why ZM save data in 2 places?

There is only one directory, the other one is a symbolic link -- it means you can access the directory via the camera name, or the camera ID number. It's normal, and isn't taking up any extra space. e.g. drwxr-xr-x 4 apache apache 4096 Jan 1 2019 5/ lrwxrwxrwx 1 apache apache 1 Mar 25 2013 CAM01_FRO...

Re: ZM trying to write to root dir

So of course, I did close down the permissions again after a short test. I hope so :) -- my point was it's not a good test to make at all , unless you have an entirely throwaway attitude to your system and data (e.g. a scratch system of no importance, a virtual machine instance), in which case go f...

Re: ZM trying to write to root dir

It looks like ZM is trying to write to the root directory. To test this, I opened up write permissions on the root directory and the directories and files were created. Eek! Be thankful that in doing that test, zm-audit didn't notice that there was a lot of files in your drive for which there were ...

Re: Monitoring Mode - Capturing?

"Capturing" just means it's acquiring images from the camera (locally or across the network), and the FPS is to show how fast this is happening. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is being recorded, or even motion-detected/alarms generated, depending on your other settings. Just looking at the liv...

Re: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums = 404?

This may have happened due to a browser or other security update on your machine. A good suggestion in general terms, but I guarantee it wasn't that for me. Personal preference is that nothing has automated updates switched on, if something's getting updated it's when I want to do it and have time ...

http://www.zoneminder.com/forums = 404?

Since yesterday ... My regular bookmark of http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/ leads to a 404 Not found page, and http://www.zoneminder.com is "Welcome to nginx! If you see this page, the nginx web server is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required." Fortunately I realized...

Re: PurgeWhenFull nfs

Thank you very much. I am able to work with "find". If I delete just the files, DB entries will remain. I have zmaudit running in the background. Is that sufficient to ensure that the database gets cleaned up in due time? Ideally, fix the problem with ZM, going on with find and nuking files is a st...

Re: PurgeWhenFull nfs

There, the challange seems to be to compute the relative date from scratch every time the srcipt runs. You need "find", a bucket of popcorn, and a read of the extremely detailed manpage for it :) Something like (example only!) find /path/to/zm/events -type f -iname "*.jpg" -ctime +5 -delete Would f...

Re: possibility of making a light sensor to put in the mailbox that will make an alarm?

how possible is it to make a light sensor ,,, it would have to be solar powered, or maybe a a rechargeable battery would last long enough.. Is there a reason why it has to be a light sensor? Surely the simplest answer to doing it this way is to fit a microswitch, or magnet and reed switch pair (thi...

Re: Foscam G2 IP Cameras

Though you appear sorted, to answer your question "What is zmc?" -- it's the bit of Zoneminder that connects to a camera, and handles all the RTSP/HTTP or other (/dev/video local devices) acquisition of pictures. (c = capture). zma then analyses those pictures and decides what's worth keeping. You s...
