Which Capture Card

Hi, I haven't been around these forums for over 10years... because my ZM installation just worked... didn't need to do anything to it :) I have now decided to upgrade to something that isn't reliant on "old hand-me-down" hardware and as part of this complete refresh I am looking at the Cap...

Like I mentioned, there is an FTP filter that will save all your images off to a remote location (which could just be an external NAS attached to your network in another location). Or alternatively, you could install Zoneminder onto an external USB connected disk... and house that disk in this puppy...

Manual MySQL deletion

I am doing some more fine tuning of my zones. I have around 4000 events with associated stats. If I manually delete the events using MYSQL, will the Stats be deleted automatically by zmaudit in the same way that the on-disk copies will be? Or Will manual deletion of either the Stats and/or the Event...

I do not think many Live CD's will work in 196 meg of ram, which is what he has. One with a MYSQL database will surly fail spectacularly. This thread shows that some people have managed to get it working in 196MB ram http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7813&start=0&postdays=0&a...

Have you looked at the LiveCD version?? Put the CD into your computer and re-boot from it. You can install onto the Harddisk from the web menu that it presents you with. NB: If you are using SATA hard disks and CD/DVD's then you "might" have issues (I did on a Dell Optiplex). in which case...

Re: stats

Can somebody post the SQL command that would be needed to do this, for those of us who aren't overly familiar with MySQL? :) First, log in to your mysql database (something similar to this) mysql -u zm_admin -p zm To list the contents of the EVENTS table: select * from Events; This'll show you each...

Re: Thanks!

Min/Max Pixel Threshold Is the min and max pixel threshold, ie all below and above will be ignored Ok, kind of get it. Valid values are 0-255. So if I set this at let say 8 and my Filter width/height is 5 x 5, what does it do? My thinking: Atleast a 40x40 pixel area (a unit) must change before anyt...

Re: Lessons Learned --- So Far

Ok, looks like preclusive zones seemed to do the trick. by defining narrow bands in areas prone to unwanted light, many false alarms can be eliminated. I would like to start using preclusive zones (I have very finetuned normal zones) but I have a question before I start... Does the preclusive zone ...

Re: Zone fine tuning / best practices

Any hints would be greatly appreciated. The main "tools" in your armoury would be a) A preclusive zone. If this zone catches an event, then it STOPS the other zones from causing an event. A good example would be a small section of your driveway, that no-one would EVER walk-through but tha...

but for now I haven't the authentication enabled... ok... (I only mention it, because it was a problem that I was having on a new system of mine). Back to basics.. although I have never had to do this, I know that many people use XAWTV to test their camera-card-linux set up (ie: remove Zoneminder f...

Ah, if you are not getting an image in the capture window, then have a look at either of the following two threads:

Blue Screen??? sounds like the camera isn't sending an image to the Capture Card. Check the image coming back from the camera using a portable TV (or similar)

I seem to recall that BLUE is the colour that the Card will show when there is no image being received from the camera. So it could be a problem with the camera itself. I generally resolve these by plugging the camera direct into a portable TV (this takes the pc and capture card out of the equation)...

FTP Upload

I used to run the 1.22.2 LiveCD, and managed to set up FTP uploading of events REALLY easily (I think it was a default filter included in the dist). I have now installed 1.22.3 on the Ubuntu Feisty dist... and it appears that I need to create the FTP upload filter manually. unfortunately I can't see...

Also... what release of Zoneminder were you running before and are you running a different version now? I migrated from a LiveCD running 1.22.2 to an Ubunto Fiesty running 1.22.3 (new hardware). It was late at night, and I thought I'd just restore my settings from a backup.... bad move! The 1.22.2 d...
