Re: How to Install Zoneminder on TrueNAS Core 12.0-U2

I have made so many tests that I have a text file with notes so I can do a fresh install and re-make all my settings so that it works perfect. That's one reason why I started liking the Synology stuff. If you could at least remember your network details, any sort of re-do was just a matter of sitti...

Re: How to Install Zoneminder on TrueNAS Core 12.0-U2

I like the TrueNAS on your hardware idea, and considered running it myself at one time a couple years ago after my 1st Synology NAS got zapped by a lightning strike. I just could not see much advantage to it over rolling your own servers.

Re: Zoneminder /dev/shm: 100%

Final Thoughts: Yeah network contention - riiiight. That camera had the wrong NIC selected. Cannot imagine how it ever worked at all. Intermittent/soft fails suck. I've juggled things between wired/wireless for various reasons, and as usual, the only thing wrong with my system is something I did to ...

Re: Zoneminder /dev/shm: 100%

Next day /dev/shm is sitting at 18%, one camera keeps hanging and everything looks great with a page refresh. Not really seeing any concerning issues on this topic. Network contention? Considering all the stuff running on this box, that it works at all seems impressive to me. 8)

Re: Another /dev/shm post - why the creep?

It's always the same 1 or 2 cameras (occasionally more) and there is no common denominator. In fact, they are different camera models on different networks. 2 physically different displays on the same PC running their own montage sessions consistently show the same. One Chrome, 1 Chromium. Maybe I'l...

surveillance station works rly nice and easy, but the licences are quite expensive
I'd be curious to see how many cameras will run on a DS220 before everything slows to a crawl.

I have Surveillance Station licenses available for half price!

Re: Another /dev/shm post - why the creep?

I see the same issue with camera hang, it's consistent and not related to tmpfs. This machine runs 16Gb, and drifts around 20% of that /dev/shm allocation, with 8 cameras running. But a camera ( usually the same one) ALWAYS stops some short period of time after launching a montage. Often more than 1...

Re: Zoneminder /dev/shm: 100%

Do yourself a favor and use Surveillance Station if you want to run security cams on a Synology NAS. I just migrated off one a couple months ago, and couldn't be happier. But unless you have a high-end model and a working knowledge of how to circumvent their proprietary OS hacks, you will fail. The ...

Re: Separate /var /tmp and home partitions. a good idea?

The way I approach this "issue," as t'were, is to put tmpfs in RAM. You can usually get away with filling up the root filesystem doing that. Conventional wisdom shielding an inadvertently filled root filesystem from excess logging, stupid users, whatever is an issue. But partitioning typically waste...

No need for the loaded language ("spouting", "does not live in a vacuum").
Right. Spouting is another term for bloviating, which in this context refers to posters who do not have answers and like to post anyway.

Re: Web page display

That's what mine looks like when run on an Apache virtual server alongside an existing site(s). This was attempted as a security screen, running on port 81 (not Internet visible). The issue is un-related to the non-docker Buster install. It's clearly an Apache issue. I asked in another thread the ot...
