hmmm I believe there is no buster arm package beyond 1.34.22...
Any suggestions on how to install 1.34.latest by building it for my pi?

What does apt-cache madison zoneminder say? It's probably an issue with how the packages are versioned. You might be able to get away with apt-get install zoneminder=1.34.25-buster1 This is the output: $ apt-cache madison zoneminder zoneminder | 1.34.22-buster1 | https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/debia...

hello, I have the same problem, and if I type
apt-get install zoneminder=1.34.25-buster1
I get
E: Version '1.34.25-buster1' for 'zoneminder' was not found
