Not sure if I can help much more - I'm a newbie on this stuff.... You may find something in this thread that I started when I was in the same position as you are:- http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12082 Personally, I'd check the camera specs to ensure it is a v4l2 device. Also check ...

I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but have you read the wiki section on webcams? Cameras that use the Video4Linux 2 (v4l2) standard are not supported by Zoneminder. The solution, if you have a v4l2 camera, is to use a bit of software called mjpg_streamer and then point Zoneminder at the mjpg...

Just for the record, I didn't need to change any shared memory settings. The default of 134217728 for both shmall and shmmax was fine for my system.

The problem seems to have arisen because I was changing resolution settings without re-booting or using the ipcrm command to clear-up.

No worries - it's burst into life without me making any changes. :D I think it wasn't working at 640x480 because I was constantly changing resolutions to check what would work and what wouldn't. Unfortunately, I wasn't re-booting after changing the settings, so probably had shared memory segments ly...

Utterly confused by shared memory

I have successfully got my Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 working with Zoneminder 1.22.3 at 320x240. I'm currently trying to get it working a 640x480 and seem to have encountered shared memory problems:- Aug 23 19:28:12 HomePC zmu[26014]: ERR [Can't shmget, probably not enough shared memory space free: ...

A small update since my last post... I'm pretty sure that the reason mine is working at 320x240 but not at 640x480 is that common problem of insufficient shared memory. In syslog I'm getting lots of messages like this:- Aug 23 19:22:24 HomePC zmu[25768]: ERR [Can't shmget, probably not enough shared...

I just installed Zoneminder from the repos and I haven't added anything else except to install mjpg_streamer. I haven't done anything with ffmpeg at all... Three things... First you implied that your Remote Host Name is set to 'local'. It needs to be localhost, but I suspect that was just a typo in ...

...I am so stupid and should RTFM in future... Sorry  :D No worries. I know exactly how you feel, believe me. ;) Good to hear that it's working. I got a basic webcam working with ZoneMinder a few days ago and felt like opening a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the event! Now I have to do the...

I'm not experienced enough to help, but I suspect you need to provide a bit more information, such as what camera are you using, is it local or remotely connected, how is it configured, can you see the camera stream with any other programs, is there anything significant-looking in the ZM logs, etc, ...

It's a SQL statement that could be run against the ZM database using phpMyAdmin or some similar tool.

Have you had a look at the documentation section of the wiki? http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Documentation Not sure if it covers setting up mails, but there's a fairly comprehensive section on filtering. [Edit] Forgot to say that there's also the user manual which may be worth a look if yo...

It works! I have Zoneminder working with my Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 webcam and it's displaying a good quality picture and detecting events. Unlike some other webcams I've tried, it works well in low light or in full daylight. http://i22.tinypic.com/29m51ty.jpg It was all relatively easy o...

I dumped my 64-bit OS recently in favour of an easy life. I got most of the apps I wanted working fine, but it was often a struggle. Having said that, I think there are far fewer problems with 64-bit now than there were a couple of years ago. But at the moment it's still a finely balanced decision. ...
