Confirming to have same trouble with FF 3.x. Systemload goes up to 20+, extensive memory usage - system is swaping to death. If closing all FF windows from other (client) machine after some time load goes down to normal. So FF3 is indeed not usable with ZM. Because reading your FF2 / IE suggest here...

Hello, using Bluecherry's pv-155 here. Distro ubuntu 7.10. Providing also 16 channels. Yes flickering here, too. Probably because playing around. I am not safe if this is an initialization problem of zm. But it seems... I fiddled around a lot because I could not get the signals of upper eight cams. ...

Found the solution myself:

Code: Select all

$ mysql -u root -p zm
mysql> update Monitors set Brightness=-1, Contrast=-1, Hue=-1, Colour=-1 where id=2;
This obviously activates automatic control mode for relevant parameters in webcam. Why this has been switched off - don't ask me!

Philips SPC900NC this time dark video

Because of the trouble on my regular box I did set up another machine. Again Kubuntu 7.10 like the other machine. As before I used SPC900NC (full story here: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10958 ). Camorama is working fine with it, xawtv, either. ZoneMinder is working so far. The c...

I ran into some troubles when increasing kernel.shmall and kernel.shmmax. Several times ZM did freeze system capabilities. Load went from nominal 20% system load up to nowhere (100%) leaving me sitting in front of an unusable machine. (Will add log entries below) Other negative (unacceptable) side e...

Just in short AFAIKS: That's a modified apache.conf - seems to let all LAN users in, but no 'outsiders'.

@Mat: yes, 640x480 working now with ZM and SPC900NC, too. according to the link, I set in /etc/sysctl.conf shared memory to kernel.shmall = 134217728 (=128MB) and same on kernel.shmmax = 134217728 (maybe anyone is interested in further reading while stumbling over this thread http://www.rwitkop.com/...

To follow-up, are you up-and-running at 640x480? In case you haven't already found it, I stumbled across the necessary shared memory settings - see step 13 in the first post at: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11068&start=0 No. Not running hires, yet. According to less time for...

Deleting /dev/video0 in localhost/zm dialog does not disable/release device.

Only the hard way:

Code: Select all

# sudo /etc/init.d/zoneminder restart
quits the access. Maybe it can be released actively by the web interface in a different way?

Thanks! I take it you've tried a smaller capture size? That's it! Tried with 320x240 worked! Back to 640x480 5 fps nope! Again this ever appearing memory messages. Probably a USB2 data transfer problem... This machine should be sufficient for this purpose Core2 2,44 GHz. Maybe bad cable. Or the hub?...

I again tested this Phillips extension dialog. Under low light conditions I could see significant differences. Look here:

Thanks for reply Mathew. Post your current monitor settings for the camera. Do the ZM logs give any hint? It recently switched into state yellow once, took a snapshot then turned back to red again. This is appearing in log file: Feb 5 20:31:30 kulix zmwatch[5564]: INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' starting ...

Can you view images okay in 'camstream'? Yes, it does. It contains a handy control for Philips extensions allowing you to tweak different things and set/reset the EEPROM etc. Found that there is only marginal difference between 10 fps and 30 fps stream while choosing 640x480 resolution. The moving ...
